Western Heritage
Belle Fourche proudly celebrates its deep western heritage, from its founding in the late 1800s to its legacy as one of the West’s most vital livestock railheads. Known for its historic wool warehouses—still among the largest in the nation—and its role as a trading hub for the Tri-State agricultural region, Belle Fourche remains a center for ranching, livestock auctions, and bentonite mining. Each July 4th, the city hosts the iconic Black Hills Roundup Rodeo, one of South Dakota’s oldest and most beloved rodeos, drawing thousands to honor the cowboy spirit.
